When you start you get a red and white striped Balloon. This is the Balloon you need to fly in to get to the North Pole .
Fixed items in the Balloon[]
Below is a list of fixed items in your Balloon.
Mounts in your Balloon[]
There are lots of mounts you can attach items to your Balloon.
Exits[]
There are four doors to enter and exit the balloon: The Front Door, Left Door, Right Door, and Back Door. The Back Door has a set of steps to make entry and exit easier. Sometimes when closed the doors do not completely shut; this may be a bug.
Setting up your Balloon[]
There are several steps which you must complete to get your balloon in the air.
- First you need to get the Small Burner and place it in the Burner Mount which is next to the Pressure Release Valve.
- Then take the Gas Canister out of Storage and place it in the Fuel Compartment. The Fuel Compartment looks like the other storage compartments but it has a image of a drop of fuel on it.
- (Optional) Take the Compass out of Storage and place it on a Small Item Mount (its recommended to put the Compass in the Small Item Mount which is tilted toward the player) and then do the same thing with the Flag on the not tilted Small Item Mount. You can also take the Big Empty Crate out of the Balloon to save weight.
- Then look at the Small Burner and left click (by default) to start the Small Burner. There should be glow you should be able to see a flame from the top of the Small Burner. The Balloon Temperature Gauge should go up and eventually the Vertical Speed Gauge will rise. You might start to tilt, this happens a lot just keep using the Small Burner.
- Once the balloon temperature rises above 50%, you should begin to lift off. If you carried along extra crates for ballast, the balloon may tilt even more. Sometimes with heavy loads it is necessary to jump while inside the balloon to briefly lighten the balloon's load and gain vertical velocity. Be careful not to fall out when you do this, especially if the balloon is leaning!
After step 3 it's possible to use the empty crates to jump above the ballon and use this position for flying (you can use Burner and Pressure Release Valve but don't really see the gauges) and a really great view. But be careful because you can fall of much easier. You can use the holes at the middle besides Burner to jump back into the balloon.
Flying the Balloon[]
Flying the hot-air Balloon is not exactly intuitive as it has no means of propulsion aside from the wind.
- The wind may seem erratic at first, but all wind currents lead roughly north. The wind may have different speeds or direction at higher altitudes, and can change over time.
- Landing on islands may prove difficult if the wind conditions do not lead directly to the island. Try changing altitude or looking for better wind currents.
- Use the compass to determine which wind currents will lead north.
- When attempting to land on islands, the wind currents below you may set you off course. Try to descend through these currents as fast as possible to minimize your change in momentum.
You can use the grappling hook to help control your balloon.
